BLUFF NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.) Mr and Mrs A. Silvester were passengers for the north on Friday. The latter is visiting Timaru, while Mr Silvester went on to Christchurch. Mr W. Fewster, sen. (Ocean Beach) left on Friday for a holiday in Christchurch. After a residence extending over twenty-six years at Ocean Beach Mr and Mrs James Brownlie are leaving to reside in Invercargill. They will be greatly missed by their many friends; for during their time at the Beach they have entered willingly into all local social activities and have been noted for their hospitality at all times. In their retirement they will have the good wishes of Ocean Beach residents for their future happiness and good health. On Thursday afternoon a pleasant function took place When the ladies of Ocean Beach and other friends gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs W. Bamsdale to honour Mrs Brownlie with a token of their esteem. In making the presentation of an oak chiming clock, Mrs P. Moffitt, on behalf of those present, stressed the many fine personal qualities of Mrs Brownlie and voiced the general regret felt at her departure. The gift, the speaker said, was a momenta of the local people’s regard and carried with it the best wishes of the donors. Mrs C. McKinnon also spoke in eulogy of the guest, after which Mrs Brownlie suitably responded. Those present besides the guest of honour were Mesdames W. Bamsdale, C. McKinnon, P. Moffitt, N. W. McGorlick, G. Mitchell, L. Brough, H. Mclvor, R. Brown, W. Fewster. A. Buttolph, J. H. Drake, A. Jones, C. Lawson. A. Low, sen., J. Lewis, T. McKenzie, W. Parsons, sen., P. Young; Misses L. Barnsdale, M. Mitchell, V. Kirk and V. McKenzie.
