FATAL INJURIES
PINNED UNDER LORRY NIGHT LONG ORDEAL OF BROTHERS DEATH OF ONE To be pinned helplessly all , night under an overturned motor truck was the terrible ordeal of two men residing at Waimumu on Sunday night, and as a result one of the pair died on his way to the Gore Hospital yesterday. The victim of the tragedy was Arthur Joseph Biondell, aged 32, a farmer at Waimumu. The accident occurred on a straight road in the vicinity of Te Titua. Tire deceased, with his brother, William Morton Bryant Biondell, aged 30, went out with the truck on Sunday evening, the younger man being the driver. The truck skidded and overturned, both occupants being pinned under the vehicle and unable to extricate themselves. Attempts to attract help failed and their plight was not discovered until yesterday morning when they were found by Mr Leslie Ross, who quickly procured assistance for their release. Both were suffering from injuries, but did not appear to be seriously hurt, and they were taken in the first instance to their home at Waimumu. Dr. R. G. Stokes was summoned from Gore and he found both men were suffering from shock and exposure and were badly bruised. He ordered the removal of the elder of the pair to the Gore Hospital and the ambulance was summoned for this purpose, but he died at about 3.15 p.m. before reaching the institution. William Blondell was reported last night to be progressing favourably, his injuries not being of a serious nature. It is expected that an inquest will be held to-day.
