A Jolly Party

A very happy gathering took place in the Otatara School on the evening of Tuesday, October 24, in honour of one of the young ladies of the district who was recently married. The evening passed pleasantly with games, items and dancing, until supper was handed round by the ladies, after which Mr D. Gordon asked Mr and Mrs Modsley to accept an afternoon tea set and a set of jugs as a small token of esteem and goodwill from the residents. He said that Mrs Modsley, as Miss Mary Wilson, had attended the school there and had grown up among the people where she had discharged her duties and responsibilities of citizenship among them creditably. In asking the acceptance of the gift he conveyed the good wishes of the community to the couple and wished them long life and happiness tor-sther. Mr Modsley suitably replied on behalf of his wife, who, upon rising, was greeted with the singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” Dancing was then resumed until the party broke up with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and God Save the King. Mr and Mrs Modsley will reside, at Kennington.
