BLUFF NOTES

PIPE BAND DANCE. (From Our Correspondent.) Mr and Mrs J. Nixey returned on Monday evening from an extended motoring holiday, during which they visited, among other places, Oamaru Timaru, Waitaki and Waimate. Good weather was experienced generally and the holiday proved a very enjoyable one. Mr A. L. Bailey, of the N.Z.R., Tamaranui, arrived on Tuesday night on a visit to his father, Mr A. Bailey Theodore street. Although pleasant enough in the morning, the weather yesterday became boisterous at Bluff, a heavy wind and occasional showers making out-of-door work something of an ordeal in the afternoon. An enjoyable dance in aid of the local Pipe Band funds took place in the Athenaeum recently. The committee responsible for the arranging and carrying out of the function was composed of Messrs A. Deans, sen. (secretary), W. Cameron, C. Fox and J. O’Connor and these worked hard to make the evening a success. Assistance was given by Messrs D. Parker and G. Giles, the latter filling the role of M.C. Music was provided by Mr C. Dixon. The dance was of an informal nature and was thoroughly enjoyed by patrons.

Labour Party’s Dance. On Monday night the Labour Party Quadrille Club held a dance which took the form of an extended night and a crowd which packed Willard Hall attended. Throughout the season the quadrille evenings have been very successful, the old time dances making a marked appeal to old and young alike, and Monday night’s excellently carried out dance was enjoyed from first to last. Mrs S. C. Harland supplied the music, extras being played by Mrs A. Morrison. Mr W. Butler capably controlled the floor in thf office of M.C. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Mr and Mrs J. Harrison, jun., and a statue dance by Mr S. Rickus and Miss West. The latter dance excited great interest and amusement. “First on the floor” prizes were won by Mr G. Giles and partner. The function, was one of the most successful of the series.
