COOKS AND STEWARDS

EMPLOYERS’ OFFER. NO AGREEMENT REACHED. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, August 29. The Cooks’ and Stewards’ (other than the Union Company) dispute which was before the Conciliation Council yesterday failed to reach an agreement and this morning the employers put forward proposals agreeing to a 15 per cent, reduction on the 1931 rates instead of 20 per cent, as proposed yesterday. After a short retirement the union assessors stated that they could not agree and would not accept less than the present award rates. After some discussion the Commissioner, Mr Gohns, said there appeared to be no hope of an agreement and adjourned the council sine die.
