BIG POWER STATION

CONSTRUCTION IN LONDON. (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, August 28. The first part of the great new power station at Battersea, London, designed to have a power of from 400,000 to 500,000 kilowatts, is expected to be finished in time to begin operations before the end of the year. It has been built on a 15-acre site on the south bank of the Thames, and is the only station of its kind in which a nitrate of sulphur eliminating apparatus has been installed. This was evolved after large-scale experiments by chemists and engineers, and is expected to prevent the pollution of tire London air. The apparatus has satisfied Government chemists of its efficiency.
