BIBLE-IN-SCHOOLS.

To the Editor. Sir, —My attention has been drawn to a report, in the Otago Daily Times of August 28, of an address given to the local Bible-in-Schools Committee in St. Paul’s Church vestry by the Rev. C. J. Tocker (president of the Southland Bible-in-Schools Committee). Mr Tocker is reported to have said that “the very instruction (religious) which was prohibited in primary schools was given daily in the secondary schools throughout the land.” Will Mr Tocker please name the secondary schools where such religious instruction is being given daily? Mr Tocker is also reported to have said that “in the latter (the primary schools) it was permissible to speak of national leaders or of criminals in connection with lessons, but it was illegal to speak of God.” Will Mr Tocker quote the statute or statutes which have made it illegal to speak of God in the primary schools? —I am, etc., FRANK SAMPSON.
