COLAC BAY NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.)

On Wednesday, August 23, the local men’s basketball team journeyed to Riverton to, play a friendly match with the Riverton men’s team. The game, which resulted in a draw, 7-all, was controlled by Mrs Lyng. A return match is to be played at Colac on Wednesday, August 30 On Saturday the ladies’ basketball team journeyed to Efmedale where they met and were defeated by the Ermedale team. The scores were 5—3. Miss Fraser was referee. After the match the Colac team were entertained to afternoon tea by the members of the Ermedale team. Mrs Anderson, of Invercargill, who has been spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs H. Hinton, returned home last and Mrs Dawson, sen., returned

to Invercargill on Saturday after spending a week’s holiday with Mr and Mrs J. H. Dawson, Wards road. Mr T. Bates, who has returned to Papatotara, spent a few days with Mr and Mrs E. Bates last week.

Mrs Shannon, Bluff, is spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs C. Goodwillie, Point road.

Miss Avis Laurie, Clifden, is spending a holiday with Miss Wilkinson, Longwood.

Mr and Mrs Couling, late of Ruahine, have taken up residence in Colac. Mrs E. Devereux and family have returned to Riverton after spending a week’s holiday with Mr and Mrs P. Devereux, Colac.

The fortnightly dance was held in the Oraki Hall on Friday, the 25th, by the Sunshine Dance Committee. Music was supplied by Messrs Egerton and McKay, while Mr J. Blakle was M.C. The lucky spot waltz was won by Mr N. Egerton and partner and the Monte Carlo dance by Mrs Wilkinson and Mr

N. Egerton. Amongst those present were: Mesdames Broomhall and Wilkenson; Misses E. Broomhall, S, Te Au, V. Wilkinson, C. Kelland, A. Laurie (Clifden), M. Hodges, D. Robinson, and Blackie; Messrs Robson, Hodges, Robinson, Lapham, Blackie, Laurie, Egerton (3), Blakie (2), Belsham, Cleaver, Whaitiri, McKay and Te Au. Among the local residents who attended the Tuatapere W.D.F.U. concert and dance were Mr and Mrs E. Shore, Mr and Mrs A. McKay, Mesdames Wadsworth, Egerton and Te Au, Misses Elderton (2), Egerton, Mackie, Hart, Belsham, Patterson and Cleaver; Messrs J. D. Gregg, Beadle, Cleaver, Latchford, Dallas, Te Au, Kelland and Barnett
