U.S. RECOVERY SCHEME
AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY CODE. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.15 p.m.) New York, August 27. At Hyde Park the President to-day signed the automobile industry code directly affecting 450,000 workers. The code establishes a 35-hour work week and a minimum wage scale of 40 to 43 cents an hour. It also grants labourers the right of selective bargaining. BRITISH WORKERS BETTER WAGES DEMANDED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 9.55 p.m.) London, August 28. The Daily Express says that a national campaign for better wages will be the critical issue at the Trade Union Congress at Brighton next week. Two million workers who bore their share of the depression are demanding a share of the proceeds of the industrial revival. The repercussions of Mr Roosevelt’s experiment are spreading to Britain.
