A GRAND DISPLAY

ST. MARY’S BAZAAR. VALUE FOR MONEY. The Victoria Hall has undergone a transformation and at the present time its gaily decorated interior presents a delightful scene. The occasion is the St. Mary’s Bazaar, held in aid of the school building funds. A worthy cause is not all on which the promoters base their appeal to the public; they claim to give unequalled bargains in fancy goods, clothing and produce, a claim that is borne out in the well-laden and tastefully arranged stalls. At the St. Marv’s Bazaar it is asserted that sixpence will do the work of a halfcrown. The bazaar, which will continue every evening, was officially opened last evening by his Worship the Mayor (Mr John Miller), who was introduced by the Very Rev. Dean Howard, the parish priest. Throughout the evening the hall was crammed and money changed hands at a rapid rate. The purchasers were more than satisfied, for they had obtained goods at a fraction of their real value. Admiring comments were passed on the decorations of the hall, which showed the results of considerable forethought and labour. The entertainments for last evening were left in the capable hands of Miss Renee Ward, whose pupils provided a splendid display. Diminutive children performed intricate dances which reflected the greatest of credit on their teachers. The following .are the names of the stall-holders and assistants: North Stall.: In charge, Mesdames Ferry and Small; assistants, Mesdames Hannan, Scully, Walker, Stokes, McAnelly, Misses Hardiman (2) and Marchant. Central Stall: In charge, Mrs Stewart; assistants, Mesdames Newell, McIntyre, Waterston, Scully and Twis« South Stall: In charge, Mesdames J. Moylan, D. Lynch and Miss V. Ward; assistants, Mrs Ward, Misses Warren. Miller, Lynch, Ward, Coneys, McGrath. Forde, Grace and Waterston. Produce Stall: In charge, Mesdames Leonard, Kelly and J. Pasco; assistants, Mesdames Nutsford, Reid, Lynch, Misses Milligan, O’Connell, Ward, V. Pasco, M. Pasco and V. Healy. Tea Rooms: In charge, Mrs J. R. Derbie; assistants, Mesdames J. Stevenson, A. Pasco, Pianta, Misses Logan, Derbie, Murphy and Stevenson. Side-shows: In charge, Messrs J. Holloway and M. J. Sheehan; assistants, Messrs N. Grace, jun., M. Caufield and J. G. Newell. For the remaining evenings of the bazaar attractive and novel programmes have been arranged. This evening Ray Nicol, of Ohai, heavyweight boxing champion of New Zealand, will give an exhibition, while on Saturday night he will be joined by W. Pasco, heavyweight and light heavyweight champion of Southland. Those in charge have seen to it that enough goods have been placed on the stalls to last a month, let alone four days, so there is no fear of any bargain-hunters losing opportunities.
