Mr J. T. Carswell is at present on a visit to Auckland. Miss Mclntosh, principal of Columba College, Dunedin, reaches Invercargill by the express this afternoon. Mr R. W. Noake, postmaster at Gore, is at present on annual leave, and is being relieved by Mr P. S. Hickey. Vice-Admiral Sir William Fisher left London on Thursday for Malta, where he will take over as Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet, says a British Official Wireless message. Constable R. A. Archibald, of Otahuhu, Auckland, is at present spending his annual holiday leave with his parents, Mr and Mrs A. W. Archibald, of Edendale. Mr A. McKenzie, who was for 20 years locomotive foreman in Invercargill, died at his residence, 14 Manchester street, Christchurch, on Monday, October 24, at the age of 84. He was also a P.M. of Loyal St. John Lodge 94. Miss K. Golden, daughter of Mr T. Golden, of Fortrose, who has been a nursing sister on the staff of the Dunedin Hospital for the past two years, leaves Auckland to-morrow en route for London, where she will continue her training at a special Karitane Hospital. Mr F. Phillips, Under-Secretary of the Treasury, has been appointed one of the Government representatives to the preparatory committee for the forthcoming international monetary and economic conference in place of Sir Walter Layton, who has resigned, says a British Official Wireless message. A Sydney cable message states: Mr H. S. Gullett, Minister of Customs, has suffered a complete breakdown in health since his return from Ottawa and he is unable to attend Parliament, which is holding up the debate on the Ottawa agreements. Fears are expressed that his condition is so serious that he may be compelled to resign from the Ministry. At yesterday’s monthly meeting of the Provincial Executive of the Southland Branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union a letter was received from Mr David Jones (chairman of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board) that Mr James Begg (a member) and he hoped to be able to visit Invercargill and Gore about the middle of November when they would give addresses.
