Between Ourselves
Cousin Iona: It certainly would be convenient to have a Minister of Finance in the family, so I wouldn’t altogether discourage the idea, if I were you. I’m glad to hear about those prospective early-morning walks, and hope that by now they are part of your days’ accomplishments.
Cousin Eugene: I was so sorry to know of your cold, dear, and I do hope you were quite better and able, not only to attend, but to enjoy the dance. It was very sweet of you to get up and pick me that box of lovely flowers. It was one of the nicest moments in my day, opening that box. Thank you very, very much. I shall be thinking of you to-morrow, in your lovely white frock. Yes, friendship is like that, too. ‘
Cousin Winnie-the-pooh: Indeed and I was very proud to receive a letter—and such a lovely letter!—from such a source! How do you like being a source? Please write me your reactions in detail. I was pleased that my congratulations reached you intact. You would like the folk-lore of Cornwall which has a lot to do with fairies.
Cousin Bunty: You will have to show your friend what you, too, can achieve in the page. I was very interested to hear about your pet lamb—how old is he now, and is he still a pet? Is Tahuna a Maori name, and what does it mean?
Cousin Doris: Quite a practical garden yours is, eh! Do you look after all of it yourself, and do you know all about the care of such precious things? Yes, I love the bush and the peace and grandeur always to be found there. It certainly is glorious to get into summer frocks again.
Cousin Cleopatra: Yes, “Anne of Green Gables” is a great favourite with most young people, I think. There are other “Anne” books, too, you know. Do you read very much? What an interesting week-end you spent!
