ATTEMPT ON LIFE

SENSATIONAL SCENE IN COURT. (Per United Press Association.) Hamilton, October 26. A sensational scene was enacted in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court yesterday when on hearing sentence of committal to the Inebriates’ Home a well-dressed married woman, aged 40 years, Lynda Mabel Pearless, made an attempt on her life by jabbing a pen into her throat. She struggled violently with the prosecuting sergeant and a constable before she was quietened and was led out of Court. The woman was charged with a breach of her prohibition order and the charge of attempted suicide was withdrawn. The accused’s husband, Reginald L. Pearless, was charged on Friday with assaulting R. J. Arnold at Auckland as a sequel to the latter’s death in Auckland Hospital last week under somewhat mysterious circumstances. Pearless appears at Auckland on Thursday to answer the charge.
