INVERCARGILL AMATEUR CLUB. The weekly meeting of the Invercargill Amateur Cycling Club was held on Tuesday evening, when' the acting president (Mr R. McCash) presided over 12 members. The president (Mr F. Sutherland) was welcomed back to the club after an absence of three months, also Mr H. Insall (treasurer) who also has been away for six weeks. Arrangements were finalized for the club’s sealed handicap race from Wyndham to town on Saturday, the race to start at Wyndham at 2.30 p.m. Riders will draw for starting places and will leave at one minute intervals. Transport to convey the riders to Wyndham has been arranged and cars will leave Mary street at 1 p.m. sharp on Saturday, the charge to be 2/- a head. Those intending to make the trip should communicate with the secretary immediately. It was decided that the 56 mile Southland road championship to be held on October 29 will be the final road race for the season. This race will start at Mary street at 1.30 p.m. and finish in Elies Road at St. Andrew’s street. A dance is to be held in the U.F.S. Hall in the evening. Another club run will be held on Sunday, weather permitting. Riders are to meet at Mary street at 10 a.m. The run will be to Riverton Rocks. Entries for the 56-mile race close on Saturday, October 22. THE OTAUTAU CLUB. (From Our Correspondent.) A meeting of the committee of the newly-formed Otautau Amateur Cycling Club was held on Monday evening, when Mr W. J. Wesney (president) occupied the chair. It was decided to affiliate with the New Zealand Amateur Athletic and Cycling’ Association. The subscription was fixed at 2/6. Mr E. A. Liddell was appointed club captain and Mr W. Porteous was elected auditor. It was resolved that the club colours be red and white. It was decided to hold a road race on Saturday, October 15, competitors start at the post office at 6.45 p.m., thence to Waikouro and across the road at Cowan’s corner, finishing at the post office about 7.30 p.m. The, following officers were appointed to control the race: Judge, Mr D. Ballam; starter, Mr H. A. Bone; stewards, Messrs G. Williams, J. Mills, H. Smyth, A. White and Sutherland; time-keepers, Messrs W. J. Wesney and J. Pulley. The Drummond Club.
There was an attendance of eighteen members at the Annual meeting of the Drummond Amateur Cycling Club in the Drummond hall on Tuesday evening, when Mr D. Jones (president), occupied the chair. The balance-sheet was read, showing a credit balance of £23 6/9, and in moving its adoption, the chairman expressed pleasure at the large attendance, which augured well for a successful year. He thanked members for the loyal support accorded him during the past season, and trusted the incoming season would be as good as the previous one. The various evening sports meetings had been well patronized by the public, and they were indebted to those who had given donations. The balance-sheet was adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr D. Jones; vicepresidents, Messrs J. Smith and J. A. Lindsay; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. Paul; handicappers, Messrs D. Lindsay and A. Ritchie; starter, Mr J. A. Lindsay; judges, Messrs D. Jones, A. Ritchie and A. Allison, jun.; club captain, Mr D. Chilton; protest committee, Messrs A. Paul, D. Jones, D. Lindsay, A. Ritchie, J. Smith and J. A. Lindsay; time-keeper, Mr A. Ritchie; announcer, Mr D. Jones. The subscription was fixed at 2/6.
It was resolved that the official opening be celebrated by holding a road race on the first Saturday in November. It was decided that the usual dance be held in the hall on Christmas night. The meeting unanimously favoured the transfer of the headquarters of the N.Z.A.A. and C.A. association from Dunedin to Invercargill.
