CONFERENCE AT DUNEDIN.

(Per United Press Association.)

Dunedin, October 11.

A conference of representatives of the Rural Intermediate Credit Board and the Rural Intermediate Credit Associations operating in the South Island was held this morning, Mr John Brown, of Canterbury, a member of the Central Board, presiding. The conference opened with a message of welcome from the Prime Minister who expressed the hope that the discussions would make for the more efficient and satisfactory administration of the system. He was confident that with an improvement of farming conditions there would be a steady .and satisfactory expansion of the operations of the Board and the Associations in the southern portion of the Dominion. The conference placed on record its thanks for the encouraging message from Mr Forbes and its appreciation of the interest and support he has given the scheme.

The chairman said that there were now 43 associations in the Dominion of which 41 were in active.operation. The Board in five years had lent approximately £1,000,000 and the. losses had been negligible compared with the large volume of business transacted.
