BAND CARNIVAL

GORE CELEBRATIONS. A well-attended meeting of the Gore Brass Band Carnival Committee was presided over by Mr F. S. Graham on Monday evening, when it was decided to hold the carnival from February 11 to 14 inclusive. The carnival is rather a novel idea insofar as it is to be held outside, the attractions being tug-of-war. running events, bands and children’s processions. It was decided to secure permission from the Minister for Internal Affairs to run raffles prior to the carnival. It was reported that visiting bands taking part in the New Zealand contests would visit Gore during the week and would tend to give the carnival a gala spirit. It was also decided to solicit the support of the Chamber of Commerce to combine with the business people in running a “Come to Gore Week” in conjunction with the carnival. Several sub-committees were set up, and another meeting is to be held in a fortnight’s time.
