SOUTHLAND ASSOCIATION. FINAL MEETING FOR THE SEASON. , The fortnightly meeting of the execu- *? ve S* .^ e Southland Men’s Hockey Association was. held last night when , A - presided over Messrs J. D. Gregg, H. S. Cordery, J. Sherrills, S’ £ 0 * d ’ S’ Smith, E. Chisholm and E. R. Darracott. The question of sticks to be given each of the Southland primary school representatives was finalized. How the presentation of the various cups won this season was to be made was then discussed. It was decided to present the Lewis Shield ( won by Riverton District High School) at their victory ball on the 20th of this month. Arrangements were also made regarding. the Double B Cup and the seven-a-side trophies.' Mr Doig mentioned how successful the year had been and how pleased he was to have had working with him such energetic members. He said they were all very sorry indeed to lose the services of Mr Darracott, who had throughout his term of office done everything possible to make hockey a success in Southland. On behalf of the association he wished him goodbye and the best of luck. Messrs Gregg and Cordery endorsed Mr Doig’s remarks. Mr S. Smith was elected secretary till the opening of the new season. BILLIARDS WILLIE SMITH’S CHALLENGE. London, October 10. Willie Smith has challenged Lindrum, Davis, Newman and McConachy on level terms under the new baulk line rule for £lOO. BOXING BLAY BEATS TROWERN. Wellington, October 11. Bobby Blay (Australia) defeated Reg Trowem in a hard fought boxing contest, Trowern surrendering at the end of the ninth round.

Blay fought vigorously, rousing the large audience to enthusiasm as the contestants freely mixed it. In the early rounds Blay displayed an impenetrable defence and cleverly broke through his opponent’s guard. His most effective blows were a right cross followed by a left hook. Trowem was down three times in the second round and again in the fourth, eighth and ninth rounds and each time the New Zealander was glad to take the count to nine. It was no surprise when Trowem signified at the end of the ninth that he had had enough and the contest was awarded to Blay. BRITISH BANTAM TITLE. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, October 11. At Manchester in a 15 rounds bout for the British bantamweight championship, Johnny King (Manchester) outpointed Dick Corbett (London), the holder. WRESTLING MUSSON BEATS PRICE. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, October 11. In a wrestling match for the middleweight championship of New Zealand between J. Musson (Christchurch) 10.12 and Harold Price 11.2, middleweight champion of Victoria, Musson won by two straight falls, the match ending in the fifth round. Price showed temper during the bout and blows were exchanged freely. RIFLE SHOOTING

INVERCARGILL MINIATURE CLUB The Monday section of the Invercargill Defence Miniature Rifle Club held its weekly shoot At the Drill Hall on Monday evening when the final round of a three round own handicap competition was fired. On Wednesday next, the 12th, the last shoot of the season will take place when the final round of the Wednesday competition will be fired. Owing to unforeseen circumstances it is regretted that the match with the City Guards Miniature Club will have to be postponed until early next season. The highest scores off the rifle on Monday evening were: S. Wall 79, B. Tinnock 76, A. Mann 76, W. S. Brown 76, Mrs Morrison 75. The following is a list of scores with handicaps: B. AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL MEETING. PAINE AGGREGATE DECIDED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.40 p.m.) Sydney, October 11. At the National Rifle Association’s meeting to-day the Dangar Match, 10 shots at .700 yards, was won by Brunskill (Wagga) with 49. James (Broken Hill) had the best of four other 49’s. New Zealanders in the small money were Cromie 46, Carter 45, Nicholl 15 an’ Charman 45.

The Paine Aggregate, comprising the totals of the Mark Foy, Lemaitre and Dangar matches, was won by Brunskill with 141, the runner-up being Rixon (Murrurundi) with the same score. New Zealanders who took small prizes were O’Donnell 139, Cromie 137, Nicholl 135 and Koppert 133. The Motton Match, 10 shots at 300 yards, was won by Clugston (Mosman) with a possible. Pitkin (Inverell) had the best, of three 49’s. Carter was the only New Zealander in the list with 46. NEW ZEALAND TEAM. INCIDENT ON RANGE, (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Sydney, October 11. If the members of the New Zealand rifle team at present in camp at the Anzac Range return home without a prize they will hot mind, as yesterday one of them, R.
