BALFOUR NOTES

The annual meeting of the local Presbyterian Romen’s Missionary Union was held on Friday afternoon. Eleven members attended, also the Rev. and Mrs Newlands (Riversdale). Mr Newlands presided. ' The annual report stated that the branch had 30 members on its roll. The
Maori Mission Birthday League had a membership of 36 and the Harvest Field had thirteen subscribers. A bring and buy sale to s raise funds for the refilling and recovering of church cushions was held last year. The work had been completed by a sewing bee and thanks were extended to all who assisted, also Mesdames McGregor and Henderson for the use of their machines. The November meeting was held at the home of Mrs Church. This
was now an annual event to which members looked forward with pleasant anticipation. The March meeting was held in the evening, at the home of Mrs Pringle. After the business was concluded a social hour was spent During the year visits were paid to the Lumsden and Mossbum branches. Lectures were given at various meetings by Sister Janet, Mrs Comber and the "Revs. Comber and Brohn. In place of the usual bring and buy a special appeal
on behalf of missions was made the result being very gratifying. The balancesheet showe:’ a credit of £l5 12/9, which was to be forwarded to the Dominion treasurer for distribution as he thought fit
The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mrs F. Pringle (re-elected); vice-presidents, Mesdames J. H. McMath and R. T. Wilson; secretary and treasurer, Mrs A. Liddell; Maori Mission Birthday
League. secretary, Mrs D. M. Alexander; mission box secretaries, Mesdames J. and D. Alexander; Harvest Field secretary, Mrs A. P. Scobie. Mr Newlands addressed the meeting taking as his subject “The Need for Prayer.” At the close of the address Mrs Pringle thanked the speaker for his inspiring message. A Good Season. Pleasant spring showers, followed by
warm sunshine have helped the growth of grass during the past week and present indications point to a successful season for the farming community. Lambing is in full swing and owing to the congenial conditions percentages should be high this year. The dairy farmers are being kept busy and the supply at the local factory shows a substantial increase over that for the same period last season.
