WOMEN’S DIVISION

WINTON BRANCH (From Our Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Winton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Thursday afternoon. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mrs W. Watson. A letter was received from the Girl Guide Committee asking the Women’s Division to select a representative for the delegation for the relief of distress. Mrs J. R. Hamilton consented to act as the representative. Congratulations were extended to Mrs Ward on being elected president of the Southland Provincial Executive Committee. The branch also expressed thanks to the retiring president, Mrs Niederer, for the good work she had done in connection with the W.D.F.U. during her term of office. Delegates from the Winton branch to the executive committee were Mrs J. H. Thomson (re-elected) and Mrs R. McDougall. It has been decided to postpone the annual conference at Wellington and it was the opinion of the meeting that the present officials should remain in office. The president introduced Mr J. R. Haigh, of Waipango, who was present to explain the Douglas credit system. Mr Haigh mentioned that it was the first occasion on which he had addressed a Women’s Division. He hoped that on the termination of his address he would have proved the value of such a scheme and also that the division would do its utmost to further it. His address was on the lines of those delivered at other centres in Southland, and at its conclusion he was heartily thanked.
