Mr and Mrs S. F. Cowan, Dunedin, and formerly of Gore, are at present on a visit to Mr and Mrs J. M. Boyne, Devon street. Mrs Morrell, Manapouri, is the guest of Miss I. Mac Gibbon, Huron street, East Gore. Mrs R. Allison, William street, was hostess at bridge on Wednesday and Thursday evenings of last week. Miss Kirk, Mosgiel, has been on a visit to her sister, Miss K. Kirk, Halton street. East Gore. Miss Winnie Gresham has returned from a holiday at Christchurch. Mesdames R. W. McCreath, W. McAra, R. J. Telfer and W. Kirk were bridge hostesses during the week. The annual dance of the Gore Mounted Rifles was held in the Gaiety Hall on Wednesday evening of last week. A large number of visitors from different parts of the district were present. The music was supplied by the Revellers’ Orchestra, and extras were played by Mr Albert Smart (piano) and Mr H._ MacDonald (saxophone). The trophies won by B. Squadron of the Otago Mounted Rifles at the recent annual camp at Tahuna Park, Dunedin, were on display, and were featured in the flashlight photograph taken during the evening. On Monday evening of last week, the members of the Play-reading Circle of the Women’s Club held their monthly meeting when a three-act play, “Lean Harvest,” by Ronald Jeans, was read with the following cast:—Mrs Trent—Miss Mabel Mac Gibbon; Nigel Trent—Miss Ruth Blaikie; Stephen Trent—Miss May Graham; Annie Dorray—Mrs H. C. Mac Gibbon; Philip Downs—Mrs R. J. Telfer; Mrs Tellworthy—Miss Ida Mac Gibbon; Mr Tellworthy—Mrs A. B. Caverhill; Celia Harwood—Miss Sylvia Inder; Miss Moggs—Mrs J. M. Boyne; DuckettMiss D. Noake; Mr Porteus—Miss Veronne Inder; Carmen Bracegirdle—Miss Mac Gibbon; Chorus—Mrs Boyne. The second of the series of card evenings held for the purpose of raising funds towards the expenses of the Eastern Southland ladies’ hockey team, which will again have to tour to defend the K Cup, was held in the Cosy Tea Rooms last Tuesday evening. There were 10 tables in play. Mrs M. Murdock, after a play-off with Mrs E. Shea, won the ladies’ prize of a silver coffee pot, and Mr J. Paterson won the gentlemen’s prize of a wrist watch. The members of the Arts and Crafts’ Circle of the Women’s Club, met on Tuesday afternoon of last week. An interesting demonstration of picturemaking with coloured papers, was given by Miss Byars. After afternoon tea, Mrs Morrell (Manapouri), showed how to make a coloured wool rug, the foundation being an ordinary bag. Members present were Mesdames H. C. Mac Gibbon, E. C. Smith, E. A.
