MATAURA BOROUGH

COUNCIL BY-ELECTION. MR J. H. CLARK SUCCESSFUL. The second by-election during the present municipal term of the Mataura Borough Council was held yesterday, when two candidates offered themselves for the vacancy created by the resignation of Councillor John Sutherland. Polling was heavy considering the wintry nature of the day, and the by-election resulted as follows: J. H. Clark 2SB George McCaw 244 Majority for Mr Clark 54 Mr Clark, the successful candidate, is a former member of the council. At the last poll he stood unsuccessfully for the mayoralty. When the results of the by-election were made known both candidates returned thanks to the electors.
