FIRE AT AUCKLAND

A LANDMARK DESTROYED. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, May 31. A residential landmark at Kohimarama, the home of Mr Ernest Davis, was destroyed by fire early this morning. . a. Situated on an eminence at the western end of the bay, it was for many years recognized as one of the finest homes in Auckland. Mr and Mrs Davis, their son, Desmond, and two female members of the domestic staff escaped in their night attire and the building was burned to the ground with all its contents, including valuable works of art, the library and Mr Davis’s collection of nautical trophies. The insurances are £5700 on the house and £2OOO on the contents.
