STEWART ISLAND NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.) At the close of the evening service in the Oban Presbyterian Church last Sunday, the Rev. R. C. Boyd was presented with a pocket-book containing a sum of money as a token of appreciation of his four years’ service as minister of the congregation. In asking Mr and Mrs Boyd to accept the gift, Mr Robert C. Hicks, session clerk, said that they were at a loss to know what to give, but it was thought best to hand over the money which would help them in the furnishing of the manse to which they-were going. Mr Hicks said he was speaking the mind of the congregation when he mentioned that the last four years had been full of happiness, and the work of the church had progressed under Mr Boyd’s leadership. Mr Boyd in reply thanked the congregation for their generous gift which had been sprung as a great surprise on Mrs Boyd and himself. He said it was with regret that he was leaving 'Stewart Island, but it had to be remembered that men in his calling had no abiding city. He had found a great deal of pleasure in his w’ork during his four years ministry on the Island. There had always been a spirit of harmony between minister and congregation and oven although he was leaving the Island to take up work in Waikaia, he would always look back on tha happy times he had spent on Stewart Island. The members of the Stewart Island Fellowship Class paid a surprise visit to the Rev. R. C. Boyd on Monday night to bid him farewell and wish him every success in his new sphere. Mr Colin Campbell, on behalf of the class, asked Mr Boyd to accept two pictures of Stewart Island in token of their esteem and appreciation of his services while leader of the Fellowship Class. The class, said Mr Campbell, had a great deal to thank Mr Boyd for and what would be their loss would be Waikaia’s gain. Mr L. Bragg also voiced the class's appreciation of Mr Boyd’s work among them as also did Mr R. C. Hicks. Mr Boyd replied on behalf of Mrs Boyd and himself. He thanked the members of the class for the beautiful pictures which would adorn the manse in Waikaia and would always bring back to him happy recollections of the good times spent in the Fellowship Class. The marriage of Martin Martinsen AHum, of Hedrum, Norway, to Phyllis Mary Watson took place at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr and Mrs James W. Watson, Halfmoon Bay, on Wednesday morning, the Rev. R. C. Boyd officiating.
