RESCUE IN MID-OCEAN
SCHOONER’S CREW IN BAD WAY.
ONLY SACK OF ONIONS LEFT.
(United Press Assn. —By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 7.0 p.m.) London, December 18. Rendered helpless by storms and leaking badly, the schooner Rea from Newfoundland drifted for 17 days in mid-Atlantic. The captain and crew were forced to catch rain-water to quench their thirst. They burned clothing to attract the attention of passing ships and were finally sighted at night by the steamer Aztec and rescued in heavy seas and landed at Honduras. Captain Brice, on the arrival of the Aztec at Southampton, said a sack of onions was the only food left aboard. The crew were almost on their last legs. Some had long flowing whiskers.
