A Farewell

A dying year now clothed in grey Is like the end of a perfect day. ’Tis done and ne’er will come again Forgotten all our grief and pain In the birth of the new year once again. With joyous feelings and happy days To be spent in pleasure in many ways We make our resolutions brave And oft forget to keep them, save When someone quickly tells us so. We must farewell the old year now For gently have we made him bow To one now flying swiftly here The golden Summer of a glad new year. —Cousin Betty McDonedd (15), 71 Conon street, Invercargill.
