Mixed Feelings
Never a Christmas season Never the old year ends But someone thinks of someone
Old days, old times, old friends. These four simple lines describe only too well our feelings as Christmas draws nigh. There is never a Christmas season passes but we get festive and joyful feelings. Never the old year ends but we think of all the familiar faces so dear to us. We think of youth, which, many of the older cousins are fast leaving behind them; of old times spent together and the pleasure derived from those happy hours; and last but not least, we remember the friends we have not seen for many years. Thus our feelings are sometimes mingled with regret. But as the beauty of a new born year envelops the earth, everything is forgotten as we greet the New 'Year and gaily farewell the old. —Cousin Betty McDonald, (15), 71 Conon Street, Invercargill.
