RIFLE SHOOTING
INVERCARGILL v. GORE. A match was fired yesterday afternoon at Otatara between teams from the Invercargill Rifle Club and the Gore Rille Club. Fifteen members from each club fired 10 shots each at 500 and 600 yards and the three lowest scores on each side were counted out. The, weather was fine but cold and the wind was inclined to be patchy. The result was a win for the' Invercargill men by 79 points, but it should be mentioned that a number of the Gore team were young shots, some with only this season’s experience. Some good scores were put up by the leaders on each side. C. 11. Wilson (Invercargill Club) compiled the highest aggregate (94), which was a fine score under the conditions. He narrowly missed the possible at 500 yards, making 49 as follows: 4 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5. G. Bain was top for Gore with 47, which read: 55 5 553555 4. At 600 yards A. Lyall headed the local list with 46 as follows: 554555435 5. For Gore, C. M. Wilson top-scored with a similar total reading: 555444455 5. At the conclusion of the match Mr Wills expressed the pleasure of the local men for the visit, and Mr Matthews extended an invitation to the local club to visit Gore at. an early date.
