RIMU NOTES

THE DAIRY FACTORY COMPANY. ANNUAL MEETING OF SHAREHOLDERS. (From Our Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Rimu Dairy Factory Company was held in the Rimu Hall on Tuesday evening last when Mr Thomas Curry, chairman of directors, presided over an attendance of 25 shareholders. The annual report was submitted as follows : The milk intake for the season was 3,170,1011 b as compared with 3,161,0121 b for the 1928-29 season. The butterfat produced was 120,5851 b and the cheese manufactured was 323,0001 b. The average price paid throughout the season was 15.705 d. The season has been a poor one for consigning factories, the universal economic conditions which prevailed early in the season being the cause of the lower prices which have ruled throughout the world. The season's output was consigned and although the profit and loss account shows a credit of £9 7/6 only, it is anticipated that when the final returns come to hand there will be a sufficient surplus to make a further payment to suppliers. The buildings and plant have been well maintained and are in good order for the coming season. The cost of production and placing cheese f.o.b. ocean steamer is the lowest on record, being 1.359 d. per lb as compared with 1.425 d of the previous season.

In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet Mr Curry reviewed the past season’s operations and regretted tha owing to the low price received in London for their consignments, which arrived there on a falling market, their pay-out was low. At this stage a discussion followed as to the wisdom of consigning when payable prices for the produce were offered at the beginning of the season' The chairman explained that it had been proved that over a period of 10 years those who consigned usually came out on top. Just what to do, consign or sell, was a matter that required expert knowledge. The motion was adopted. The retiring directors, Messrs A. Batchelor and R. S. Grieve, who retire under the company’s articles of association were’ reelected. Mr McLellan was also elected to the directorate. Mr T. Curry thanked the directors for their loyal support during the past difficult year. They were an orderly household and their co-operation throughout was very helpful. He desired, to compliment the manager (Mr K. Henderson) for his efficient management of the factory during the past season. He had done exceptionally well with the grading of cheese, of which over 80 per cent, was classed as finest. There was no second grade. The manager had informed him that the staff was the best he had had. Messrs Hunter and Reid were appointed auditors for the ensuing year. The chairman was voted £lO 10/-, the usual honorarium. It was decided to open the factory on the 23rd inst. The directorate of the factory now comprises: Messrs T. J. Curry, Thomas, Grieve, Batchelor, McLelland, Duff, Carswell, Watt and Shand. Euchre 'Party. An extended evening of the euchre functions was held in the hall on Friday evening, there being a fair attendance only. Mrs Shand secured first prize for the ladies and Mr Butler for the men. The games were followed by dancing, the music for , which was ably supplied by Messrs Butler and Burke.
