POSTAL REVENUE

LATEST RETURNS. ' INCREASE ON PREVIOUS QUARTER. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, February 6. A return of postal revenue for the quarter ended December 31, 1929 published in the Gazette to-night shows a total postal revenue (shillings and pence omitted) of £389,300 compared with £375,770 for the same period of the previous year. The total telegraphic revenue is £610,446 compared with £566,206. The postal revenue at the four main centres is as follows: Auckland £84,744, Wellington £72,388, Christchurch £38,873, Dunedin £25,149 and telegraphic revenue: Auckland £153,483, Wellington £127,413, Christchurch £94,472, Dunedin £20,027. Savings Bank returns for the same period shows an excess of withdrawals over deposits of £367,678 and for the corresponding period of 1928 £403,576. The total amount of deposits for the quarter with the figures for the last quarter of 1928 in parentheses were: £7,166,227 (£6,784,178) and withdrawals £7,533,905 (£7,187,755).
