STRUCK BY GALE

DISCOVERY BUFFETED FOR THREE DAYS. (Special to Prefs Association—By Radio.) Canberra, February 6. Wireless advice from the Discovery, dated February 3, states that the vessel had experienced for three days a severe north-easterly gale following the perfect weather of January 28. This had caused a heavy drain on the ship’s coal supplies, and she must proceed now to Kerguelen Island to replenish her bunkers. The season would then probably be too late to permit further serious exploration within the pack ice before next summer.
