TERRIBLY INJURED

YOUNG MAN’S DEATH MOTOR CYCLE AND TRUCK COLLIDE RIDER’S CLOTHING TAKES FIRE (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, June 25. George Jonathan Pine, aged 19, died in the Christchurch Hospital at noon to-day-as a result of terrible injuries received in a collision between a motor cycle he was riding and a motor truck on the Riccarton Road this morning. Pine was riding on a piece of the bitumen-paved road facing the rays of the morning sun. As he was passing W. J. Bowman's yard a motor truck, driven by R. Giles, came out on to the road. The motor cycle hit the truck with a terrific crash. The motor cycle petrol tank burst and the petrol took fire, enveloping Pine, his motor cycle and the bonnet of the truck in flames.

Pine was dragged from the burning truck with his clothing afire and terribly burned. He was rushed to hospital, but he lived only a few hours.

A chemical extinguisher was effective in saving the truck from complete destruction. Pine was the son of the well-known horse trainer, Mr George J. Pine.
