SCOTCHMEN AND GIFTS. Since the wonderful gift of a £25,000 Art Gallery by Mr R. E. McDougall to the citizens of Christchurch much has been written about the generosity of the canny and careful Scotch, and quite a controversy has taken place as to whether this race or its neighbour across the border is the more generous. During this much-debated subject, the people of Christchurch quite lost sight of the fact that some time before, the Dills of America presented to the Dominion of New Zealand a tobacco named Dill’s Best. The canny and careful Scot recognized the exceptional quality and flavour of the tobacco, and also found that it appealed to his race for the reason that there was no waste. A local Scot recommends his countrymen and all smokers to try it.— AdvU
