BOXING

GRIFFITHS—GILLESPIE BOUT. WIN FOR DUNEDIN CONTESTANT. (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, April 15. On Saturday evening Tommy Griffiths (Bst 7-flb) beat Norman Gillespie (Bst 13Jlbs), the featherweight champion of Australia, in a 15-round contest for a purse of £l5O offered by the Otago Boxing Association.

The fight was closely contested and went the full distance. From the outset Griffiths proved himself a speedier and more elusive boxer and in the opening rounds he did most of the leading. Gillespie is a likeable boxer who punches hard and straight but was too slow for the Dunedin lad who made him miss badly throughout.
