BOROUGH AFFAIRS
SOUTH INVERCARGILL COUNCIL. The final meeting of the South Invercargill Borough Council was held last evening when those present were:—the Mayor (Mr G. R. Brown), Councillors W. Bridges, J. R. Sutton, T. B. Ballantyne, J. McG. Forrester, W. Jenkinson, J. Mitchell, G. Holloway, E. Hewitt and W. McChesney. A letter was received from the secretary of the Southland League (Mr J. S. Dick) advising the council that the quarterly meeting of the league would be held at Queenstown on Saturday, March 31.—The writer to be informed that the council has no remits to offer. A letter concerning the Southland Electric Power Board rates for the year commencing on April 1, 1928, and ending on March 31, 1929, was received from the secretary (Mr C. Campbell). It was moved that the matter be held over to next month. The foreman’s report was received. Accounts amounting to £1,043 12/7 were passed for payment, the Finance Committee being empowered to sign- cheques. It was decided that the Post Office authorities be asked to extend their privileges by allowing the South Invercargill bureau to sell postal notes and money orders, and it was also decided to remove the slot telephone to a site in the vicinity of the tram terminus. It was unanimously resolved to send a letter to the inspector of nuisances (Mr G. E. McDermott) thanking him for his past services. The Mayor (Mr G. R. Brown) was then thanked for his services during his twelve months of office. In replying the Mayor expressed his pleasure at being associated with the councillors and referred to their valuable assistance, thanking also the- Town Clerk for his co-operation.
