AMERICAN PRESIDENCY

MR HOOVER’S CANDIDACY. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) New York, March 24. Much interest has been aroused by a statement from the Secretary of the Interior that Mr Hoover now has enough probable votes to secure his nomination in the first ballot of the Republican National Convention.—A. and N.Z. SUPPORT FROM MUSICAL ARTISTS. (Rec. 11.0 p.m.) . .New York, March 24. The first touch of gaiety in the political campaign comes with the announcement that a committee of noted musical artists, headed by Galli-Curci, has been formed to support the Presidential candidacy of Mr Hoover. Galli-Curci stated: “There os a belief that musical folk are not practical folk. This is obviously untrue. Therefore, the support of leaders in musical art in an important political campaign is significant. We agree he is no politician, but it would be a good thing to have a President so beloved and respected by other nations as he.”—A. and N.Z.
