VALUABLE FIND
SET OF BLAKE’S PAINTINGS. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, March 23. A set of water colour paintings claimed to be the original set of William Blake's ‘lllustrations to the Book of Job” and to be worth £12,000 to £15,000 were discovered recently in a house at Ellerslie, occupied by Mrs E. J. Hickson and her daughter, Mrs Martin, daughters of the late Mr Albin Martin, an English artist, who arrived in Auckland in 1851. Mr Martin, who was born in 1813, was associat ed with Blake as a child and in 1834 bo. came a pupil of John Linnell who was first to recognize Blake’s genius. The pictures were found in a neglected corner of the sitting-room. The sisters also possess other valuable pictures.
