MINISTERIAL. The Hon. R. A. Wright (Minister of Education) arrived on Thursday at Tauranga from Thames, says a Press Association telegram. He visited the school in the afternoon and addressed the children. He was later entertained at afternoon tea by the school staff. He received a deputation on Thursday night regarding the need for a technical high school. He left for Auckland yesterday morning. Mr A. H. Chisholm, Otautau, travelled to Dunedin by the second express yesterday. A Gisborne wire records the death of Mr Robert Craill, a pioneer settler of the district, aged 96. Mr Charles Eyre, of Dunedin, who has been visiting Invercargill, returned to the north by the second express yesterday. Mr F. J. Robinson, manager of Butterworth Brothers’ Invercargill warehouse, returned from a short visit to Dunedin by the first express yesterday. Dr Ragnvald Rishovd, a graduate of the Oslo University, Norway, has been appointed house surgeon at the Dunedin Hospital in place of Mr Paterson, who is preparing for his final examinations. Mrs C. de R. Andrews, provincial commissioner of the Girl Guides, arrived in Invercargill from Dunedin by the express last evening to attend the rally being held today. She was met by a small guard of honour from the local troops. At the meeting of the Otago University Council on Tuesday, Mr G. Macgregor Cameron, senior secondary assistant, Riverton High School, received the appointment of assistant to the professor in English at the University. A Wellington message states that the Commissioner of Rural Intermediate Credits (Mr J. W. MacDonald) announces that the Governor-General has appointed Mr J. Snell, M.A., Ll.b., at present controller of the mortgage division of the Public Trust Office, Wellington, to be Deputy Commissioner of Rural Intermediate Credits. At the annual meeting of the Invercargill Football Club last evening, occasion was taken to say fareweH to Mr O. Cheyne, one of the members, who has been transferred to Dunedin and leaves for the north in a few days’ time. The president (Mr W. Robison) and several members voiced their appreciation of Mr Cheyne’s valued services as a member of the club, and while regretting his departure, congratulated him on his promotion. On behalf of the club the president presented Mr Cheyne with a leather suitcase as a mark of the esteem in which he was held by club members. Mr Cheyne appropriately replied.
