GORE BOROUGH

MEETING OF COUNCIL. ROUTINE MATTERS DISCUSSED. (From Our Correspondent.) The fortnightly meeting of the Gore Borough Council was held last evening. Present:—The Mayor (Mr. D. McDougall), Councillors J. Browlie, T. Sim, W. D. Shelton, H. Black, M. Hay, A. T. Newman, G. W Allot t, W McKinna, C. R. B. Wilkinson, W. K. Hamilton and J. A. Baldey. The clerk of the Southland County Council advised that work on the traffic and foot bridge would be put in hand as soon as the street and bridge was declared a main highway.—Received. The Deputy District Public Trustee wrote statting that the Public Trustee had agreed to act as sinking fund commissioner in respect of the Gore Borough Council street lighting and water supply extension redemption loan (1927) for £3ooo.—Received. Mr. R. S. Lange submitted a lengthy report on the town clock and recommended an expenditure of £8 16/- to set it in proper working order.—Work to be carried out. The tender of W. Cooney of £675 for the sanitary contract was accepted. It was decided to erect a series of seven lights over the motor-parking area in Main Street. Accounts amounting to £5,789 19/4 were passed for payment.
