DUNEDIN R.S.A. CHOIR

CONCERT AT GORE. (From Our Correspondent.) The Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Choir gave a very successful concert in the Princess Theatre, Gore, on Saturday evening. Though the choir had not previously visited Gore its fine reputation as a musical organisation had preceded it, with the result that the theatre was filled with a large and appreciative audience. The choir, which comprised 60 voices, gave a nicely varied programme of choruses, part songs and humorous numbers and treated them all with skill. The more rousing choruses such as “The Song of the Bow” and “The Sword of Ferrara,” were particularly effective, while the combined solo and chorus work was also good. The choir's soloists were, Messrs M. O’Sullivan, F. Haig and W. N. Satterthwaite. Solos were also given by the conductor. Mr. J. Leech, whose singing of “Angels Guard Thee” was one of the best numbers of the programme, Mr. W. N. Sattherwaite also gave a pleasing interpretation of the solo “Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes.” Humorous selections by Mr. Andrew Gorrie were also a pleasant feature of the entertainment. A male quartette comprising Messrs Satterthwaite, A. J. Parker, Patterson and White scored a great success with the negro working song, “Carry me back to old Virginie.” The choir was assisted by Miss Eva Judd, violinist, and by Miss Stuart Mitchell, soloist, and the items given by these two performers added materially to the success of the concert. Both Miss Judd’s and Miss Mitchell’s numbers were very popular and were enthusiastically received. The accompaniments were excellently played by Mr. L. A. James. Orchestral numbers were given by Mr. Stroud’s orchestral party to whom the thanks of the choir are due.
