FARMERS’ UNION
THE GORE BRANCH.
(From Our Correspondent.)
The monthly meeting of the Gore Branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, held on Saturday afternoon, was attended by Messrs H. E. Bacon (chairman), J. Johnston, D. Dickie, D. Gilchrist, R. J. Johnston, W. G. Ladbrook and J. Wylie.
CORRESPONDENCE.
A letter was received from the Dominion secretary requesting the branch to send telegrams of protest against the Daylight Saving Bill to Mr W. S. Glenn, M.P., who had done valuable work in the past irt opposing the Bill.—The secretary’s action in communicating with Mr. Glenn was approved.
A circular letter was received from the Auckland Branch of the Farmers’ Union requesting the support of the branch for a resolution urging a gradual reduction of the protective Customs taxation now levied upon British goods. The branch was also requested to convey its endorsement of the resolution to the Government and to the local members of Parliament. It was decided to endorse the resolution. Mr Dickie remarked that the resolution referred only to British goods and so long as they asked for free trade within the Empire, they were on safe ground. Mr. D. Gilchrist reported that he had not yet been able to prepare his address on Basic slags and Rock phosphates, but would give this address at the next meeting of the branch.
