RED CROSS SOCIETY

MEETING OF INVERCARGILL BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Invercargill Red Cross Society was held in the rooms, Tay street, on Friday the Bth inst. there being present Mrs W. P. Smith, (president, in the chair), Mesdames J. G. Petrie, H. Acton, A. Hanan, A. Hamilton, R. Henderson and Nurse Kerse. Reports of the activities of Sister Kirkpatrick (Otago District) Nurse Corkill (Taranaki District) and Nurse Christian (Waimate District) were received for the month of May, 1927. Headquarters forwarded copy of minutes of further meeting held with the Deputy-Director-General of Health on June 21, 1927, regarding the utilisation of the services of the Red Cross nurse in the Taranaki district. Headquarters forwarded copies of minutes of the annual meeting and the meeting of the N.Z. Executive, both of which were held in Wellington-, on June 8, 1927. Headquarters forwarded a list of issues made by the Wellington depot for the quarterly period, April 1 to June 30, 1927. Headquarters forwarded a copy of a letter received from the Director-General of Health expressing the appreciation felt by the medical superintendents at Pukeora Sanatorium and Rotorua, for the work done by the society. Headquarters forwarded a copy of a memoranda received from the Red Cross Commissioner in London with reference to the proposal to erect a national memorial to her Majesty the late Queen Alexandra. HOSPITAL COMFORTS. Mrs W. P. Smith and Mrs A. Hanan reported having visited the hospital, there being six soldier patients. Mrs A. Hamilton reported having visited the Kew Sanatorium, there being two soldier patients. Fourteen applicants for underclothing were received, twelve being granted. Six letters of thanks were received. The Southland Rugby Union forwarded complimentary tickets to the football match held on the 9th inst. this concession being much appreciated by the soldier patients. Mrs J. G. Petrie and Mrs H. Acton were appointed as official visitors to the Southland Hospital. Accounts amounting to £34 were passed for payment.
