UNEMPLOYMENT
THE MAYOR’S APPEAL A SPLENDID RESPONSE SUBSCRIPTIONS STILL BEING RECEIVED The Mayor of Invercargill has appealed to the public to subscribe to a fund to provide work for men who are now unemployed. The money paid into this fund will be subsidised £ for £ by the Government. Subscriptions may be left at the Southland Times Office or at the Town Hall and they will be acknowledged. The following sums are acknowledged from the Southland Times Office to date: —
It is stated that people living in the above borough cannot get work or relief from the Invercargill municipality fund. MEETING AT WELLINGTON. Wellington, July 12. A meeting of the unemployed to-day resolved to wait upon the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance and to march through the streets or Parliament buildings with the idea of impressing on the Government that the unemployed wanted wages at full trade union rates or full maintenance.
