11TH BATTERY

ANNUAL SMOKE CONCERT. The annual smoke concert of the 11th Battery (N.Z.A.) was held in the Federal Tea Rooms last evening, Major R. McPherson presiding over an attendance of about 150 members of the battery and others. In his opening remarks the chairman traced the history of the 11th Battery, and said it was a record of which they might justly be proud. With regard to the proposed removal of the battery to Dunedin the speaker said that he hoped sincerely it would never come to pass. The following toasts were honoured during the evening—“ Old Gunners,” proposed by Captain W. Alexander and replied to by Captain Shaw; “Other Arms,” Major McPherson, response Lieut.-Colonel Hargest; “The 11th Battery,” Major McHugh, response Captain W. A. Gow; “The Instructional Officers,” Lieut. C. A. Masters, response Lieut. Withell; “The Ladies,” Lieut. Smith; “The Performers,” Lieut. Masters; “The Press,” Major McPherson. During the evening items were given by members of the Battery and by Messrs Buchan and S. Anderson.
