SHIPPING INSURANCE

CARGO LOSSES GIVE CONCERN. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, July 11. A meeting of insurance representatives in London to-morrow will discuss cargo losses arising from pilferage, hook, sling and other damage, whereby it is alleged that enormous claims are sustained. The insurers say that the traditional policy covering perils of the sea and fire no longer suffices. Shippers require additional protection against the new risks which are not strictly maritime but which at first were readily undertaken by the underwriters. The position is now very different and the insurers are losing heavily thereby.—A. and N.Z. and Sun Cable.
