SAVE THE BUSH
Tuatapere will B have to meet the arguments of those who declare that sections with houses on them are more valuable than bush, when it seeks to stop the subdivision of the scenic reserve close to the township and it is not always easy to convince these earnest people that there is any value in land that is covered with trees. They look about them and see a few miles away large tracts of forest waiting the millers, and they console themselves with the assurance that there is plenty of timber still standing, but they neglect at the same time to cast an eye on the towns which, disregarding their opportunities, have allowed native bush to be cut down and burned without making any reserves. The Tuatapere Progressive League has decided to take steps to protect this reserve, and it is to be hoped that it will secure the assistance of the Southland League in its fight. It was suggested that the sections into which it is intended to subdivide this bush are too small for profitable use. We hope that this aspect of the matter will not obtrude itself too much; the dominant idea is that Tuatapere is entitled to look to the future and in the interest of those who love the fast-disappearing bush preserve this sample of it that is close to its borders.
