INDIAN ARMY TEAM. HARD GAME WITH CANTERBURY. (Per United Press Association.) Chrirtchurch, June 13. A crowd of fully 12,000 witnessed the hockey match between the ■ Indian Army team and Canterbury and at times they were moved to a high pitch of excitement. Canterbury gave the visitors the hardest fight of the tour and were unlucky not to draw. Early in the second spell S. Bell scored Canterbury’s only goal with a shot that left Ghulam Ali standing. Immediately after the bully off the forwards came back to the Indian circle where Teague netted with a shot which the Indian goalie had no hope of saving. This second spectacular goal within two minutes of the first raised the crowd to a high pitch of enthusiasm, but when the roars of cheering died down it was found that Teague had been penalised for sticks. The Indians’ first goal came late in the first spell from a roll in. India set off down the line on the left wing and a scramble in Canterbury’s circle ended in Dianchand finding the net. Their second goal followed Canterbury's two efforts the same player scoring with a great shot after a fast forward attack. Canterbury's solid defence did not allow the Indian team to shine so brilliantly as in northern matches. They were always fast and clever with their sticks, but brilliant intercepting and stopping by Canterbury broke up their combined play.
