FOOTBALL.

WALES BEATS FRANCE. A STRENUOUS GAME. Paris, April 5. At international Rugby Wales beat France by 7 to 5. The attendance was 40,000. It was a hard and fast game. Half-way through the first half the French threequarters participated in a neat movement ending in Girintes scoring a try between the posts, Gonnet converting. The Welshmen fought strenuously, but met with stubborn resistance. At half-time France was 5 to 0. On resumption the Welsh forwards’ rushing tactics severely taxed their opponents’ defence. From the scrum on the French twenty-five Cornish secured and dropped a goal and then a mistake by the French full-back let in R. Jones, who scored an unconverted try. Towards the'end the Frenchmen spurted and there was a fierce struggle on the Welsh twenty-five, but it was ineffective. —A. and N.Z.
