ST. PATRICK’S DAY

CELEBRATIONS IN LONDON. London, Mar. 18. St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated in London by banquets at the Irish Club at which the Prince of Wales was the principal guest and the Four Provinces of Ireland Club, where a record gathering of 1200, including Mr Baldwin and Cardinal Bourne were present. The companies at both functions were distinguished. The Prince of Wales concluded a humorous speech by hoping that Irishmen the world over were spending an equally happ*- Saint Patrick’s Night. The chairman of the Four Provinces presented Mr Baldwin with a case of Irish briar pipes. A r»nsation as Mr Baldwin rose was caused by a priest throwing a lighted firework from a gallery in the banqueting room, which set fire to a carpet and caused a woman guest to faint. The offender was ejected.—Reuter.
