ASSISTANT TEACHERS
ACCOMMODATION PROBLEM. EDUCATION BOARD IN A QUANDARY. (Special to the Times.) Wellington, Mar. 17. The Wellington Education Board is in | quandary in many districts in regard td suitable boarding accommodation for assist-* ant teachers in Shannon. This trouble has become acute, and the Education Department was approached without success to endeavour to remedy the difficulty. At to-day’s meeting of the board a letter was read from the depart-* ment stating that in several instances il had been found that the teachers referred to had been unreasonable in their demandl and had not troubled to accommodate themselves to the circumstances of thl peoples with whom they were staying. Several members of the board adverse!] criticised the attitude of the and the acting chairman (Mr R. A. Wright, M.P.) expressed regret that no progress had been made in the matter. It was a serioui problem which would have to be met in some way, even if the department had to build more cottages. It was often found difficult by farmers to take in teachers ai boarders as the meal hours of the teachen did not coincide with those of the family) No action was taken in the matter.
