{TROUBLE IN MOROCCO

RIFFS WELL ARMED. FRENCH CLAIM A VICTORY. (By Telegraph.—Pre® Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) PARIS, May 6. (Received May 7, 11.5 p.m.) French correspondents in Morocco admit that France is faced with many difficulties. It is estimated that Ab-del-Krim has 5000 regulars and 1500 volunteers. The Riffs are well supplied with wireless, aeroplanes and artillery. The latter’s shooting is so good that the French are wondering whether the gunners are Arabs. A communique from Morocco states that the French centre column cleared the Taounai heights after a fierce resistance, the enemy consisting of regulars assisted by local tribesmen. Le Temps’ telegram from Fez aays that the French lost four officers and 44 men killed and 150 wounded. Ttie Riffs casualties were ten times greater.
